Evidence Based Practice remains a big part of nursing on a daily basis. This offers validation to the current practice and reasoning behind it. Researchers continue to explore new ways to improve care and improve the health of patients. I see this being applied and learned in my current workplace. In our EMR we have quality assurance tabs that must be checked each time someone is in the patientās chart. This tab alerts the staff what the patient may be due for or any updates that need to be made. An example of this is in the gyn department and pap smears. We rely on evidence based practice and research to guide us using the ACOG recommendations as to when to repeat a pap smear based on the history of the patient. If a woman has never had an abnormal pap smear she can repeat her pap smear in three years as long as she still comes annually for an exam. However, a woman who has a history of HPV or any type of abnormality may need to come every six months or every year for a pap smear test.
