What is the role of the various characteristics of the board on the performance of financial institutions in India as compared to those in the U.S? Thus, given the quantitative nature of the research question, this correlational study employs a quantitative positivism paradigm and a case study design to compare how the size, structure, ownership and transparency of the Indian financial institutions differs from that of the U.S. firms in terms of the performance levels. In addition, the study reviews the current theoretical and empirical literature on corporate governance from India, the U.S. and other countries to gain more insight and develop the study hypothesis. In the next chapter, a conceptual framework covering the theories and previous studies on the subject matter is presented and thereafter, the methods that shall be used are suggested.
