Dr. Bradley Campbell defines genocide as the ” organized and unilateral mass killing based on the basis of ethnicity. History is rife with genocides–the Jewish Holocaust, as well as those that occurred in Bosnia, Cambodia, Rwanda among many others. as horrific as deviant as these events other they are also, in part, an attempt to exercise social control over an “other” . We are often are aware of the atrocities themselves , but less so how a community or nation heals once the period of extreme violence is over. Is it possible to heal when some groups have so thoroghly demonized and dehumanized their ‘neighbors’. In the forum materials section I have posted a link to a New York Times article regarding the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide.
