Imagine that you are a particular character in a work of literature. You must place yourself in their body, emotions, and circumstances, while still retaining your own ability to think and act. First discuss how you relate to the character, and what traits you may share. Justify one of their most significant or controversial statements, decisions or actions, with developed support for the character’s reasoning and emotion. Next, disagree with a different significant statement, decision or action, again with developed support for your own reasoning. For the disagreement, what would you have the character do instead, why, and how might this change the theme/outcome of the work? Finally, state why your character is the most important character of the work. Use primary quotes wherever possible to support, elaborate on, and even contrast your own ideas. Secondary sources will be useful to explore human nature, psychology, social/historical circumstances and the work in general. You may use first person.
