Need help with my Computer Science question – I’m studying for my class.
Part 1: Think about how to build teams in terms of designing the task, selecting the people, and then, managing their relationships. How would compose a team for completing a course/work project in terms of the three dimensions listed above. How would you incorporate diversity in designing a team?
Incorporating diversity while designing a team can be very challenging for a project management team. Project management team needs to consider below aspects while designing tasks, selecting team members and their relationships.
Project Requirement: Project manager needs to be cognizant of the projects requirements end to end and should envision the skill sets needed to complete project successfully. On that basis, manager will be designing the tasks allocating proper modules to respective team members.
Team selection & managing relationships: Assigning right kind of role to the individual team member is important in order to increase learning skills and improvise on the learning process. Collaborative learning plays a key role in encouraging cooperative behavior which promotes positive interdependence within team.
Part 2: Discuss team identity. Why do you feel attached to certain groups and teams but not to others?
Just as identity gives an individual a sense of ones character, builds up self-esteem and pride, similar is the case with Team Identity. Team is comprised of set of team members with diverse characteristics that work on a common project inculcating different aspects and working towards the betterment of the project. In this journey of working together, its natural and obvious to get attached to certain set of people or groups that might have common mindsets or discussion points on the basis of which they start communicating frequently. As rightly stated in the article, ‘Social identity approach to organizational behavior gives insight into individual member behavior and thus the behavior of groups and the organization itself.’(W.Sedam). It also states that communication acts as a tool in this process thus, providing means of tuning group identities to help teams build relationships. There are also cases where teams get attached to certain groups in order to elevate teams identity in other teams.
