The goal of this is to make 9 USMLE style questions. An example of what will be given is “aortic valve insufficiency: normal collagen synthesis.” The first part (aortic valve insufficiency) will be the pathology that the second part (normal collagen synthesis) will have to relate to in the question. When writing the question, the goal is to write about how normal collagen synthesis pertains to aortic valve insufficiency. We know that the aortic valve is comprised of collagen so we want all the questions to relate back to biochemistry. A good question would be something like “the aortic valve is comprised of collagen. Which two amino acids are required in collagen synthesis?” This should be followed by 4 choices. The 4 choices should all be real choices so no made up amino acids. They should all be amino acids. There should be one clear answer. The questions should not include “never, all of the above, none of these etc.” Each question must have a scholarly reference to back up the answer. The questions should not be easy, but should be questions that would be asked on the USMLE. Remember, the first one is the pathology and it does not necessarily have to be mentioned in the question, but the second part should pertain to the pathology and the question should be a BIOCHEMISTRY question pertaining to the second part and being of the first pathology.
