What is the impact to the nursing profession and to the public related to the projected nursing shortage? Discuss at least one way that the nursing profession is working toward a resolution of this problem.

Nursing shortages are becoming a serious issue that impacts not only the health care profession, but the community as well. Due to the high volume of nursing staff preparing to retire and intense requirements to enter the nursing profession, there are nursing shortages occurring across the United States . With an advancement in medicine and technology, there has been an increase in patient’s with chronic conditions that are needing additional health care . All of these variables are leading to further nursing shortages which in turn are affecting patient outcomes.
One way that the nursing profession is attempting to combat this serious issue is by hospitals partnering with universities to promote student volume (Nursing, 2019). Wisconsin and many other states have implemented initiatives to offer scholarships and student loan forgiveness to encourage more students to enter the nursing profession (Nursing, 2019). Universities are working on efforts to fill all vacant seats for their nursing programs and hospitals are offering competitive wages to promote growth in the nursing profession (Nursing, 2019). Without these efforts, the nursing shortages will only become an increasingly dire issue, and further initiative needs to be taken in order to continually improve the situation.
